An Island of Sanity

Recently, after a yoga class, I was talking with another practitioner about how much we both appreciate spending time in environments that uplift us. We wondered where we could find more places where people gather for elevating conversation, deepening spiritual practice, and expanding the sense of well-being in everyday life.

When Yoga Together Lincoln was open, my primary motive was to create "an island of sanity," a place where people could come to remember that they are kind, generous, and creative beings and reconnect with the sacred within.

Even though Yoga Together Lincoln has closed, that intention has remained.

The path to sanity includes learning to see the habitual patterns in the body/mind that create suffering , and taking the necessary steps to shift these patterns and cultivate peace, clarity, wisdom, and joy.

Yoga is the best way I've learned to make this shift. Movement, intentional breathing, concentration, and meditation are time-tested tools used by wisdom seekers across continents and centuries. These practices move us—sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly, but always surely—toward sanity, awakening the memory of our kind, generous, and creative true Self.

There's something special and important about doing this together. Yes, much yoga practice is done solo, but when we come together, the feeling of aloneness dissolves. We laugh and cry together, encourage one another, and learn from one another.

I think we need more islands of sanity in the world. Let's not wait for someone else to create them. We can create them together.

My next six-week yoga series begins this Sunday, October 18, and I'd love to have you join us.

We'll meet Sundays from 3:30–5:00 p.m. at Empowered Healing, October 18 through November 22. The series is designed for people with at least two years of regular yoga practice, and we'll explore mantra, asana, kriya, and pranayama, all rooted in the wisdom of yogic philosophy.
